Healthy Summer Snacks

The French have famously mastered the art of eating well without ever feeling deprived — le secret, as we like to say. It isn't about counting every little thing; it's about quality, balance, and a genuine love of the table. And in summer, when Miami turns up the heat, the French instinct is exactly right: eat lighter, eat fresher, and always make it feel a little bit special.

Whether you're poolside, prepping for an evening apéro with friends, or simply need something to nibble between errands, here are our favorite grown-up summer snacks — wholesome, beautiful, and unmistakably French.

The reimagined apéro board. Forget the heavy charcuterie spread. Build a summer version with marinated olives, radishes with a touch of good butter and flaky sea salt (a classic Parisian bite), cornichons, a wedge of aged comté, and plenty of fresh figs or apricots. It looks indulgent, but it's mostly produce, healthy fats, and a small amount of really good cheese — the French way of having a little of something wonderful rather than a lot of something mediocre.

Chilled cucumber-mint velouté. Blend cucumber, a little Greek yogurt, fresh mint, lemon, and a pinch of salt, then chill. Serve in small glasses (espresso cups are darling for this). It's hydrating, refreshing, and impossibly elegant for a Miami summer afternoon.

Energy "bouchées" with dates and almonds. Blitz dates, almonds, a spoon of cocoa, and a pinch of sea salt, then roll into little bites. Bouchée simply means "mouthful" — and these are the perfect one. Naturally sweet, no refined sugar, and they travel beautifully to the beach.

Tomates de saison, the simplest luxury. When summer tomatoes are at their peak, slice the best ones you can find, drizzle with olive oil, scatter with basil and fleur de sel, and call it lunch. The French believe the best ingredients need the least done to them — moins, c'est plus. Less is more.

Berries with a cloud of crème. For a douceur (a little sweetness) that won't weigh you down: fresh strawberries or raspberries with a small spoon of lightly sweetened whipped crème fraîche and a dusting of lemon zest. Dessert that feels decadent and is mostly fruit.

A little astuce for the Miami heat: the French love a non-alcoholic apéro too. Sparkling water with a splash of grapefruit juice, a few raspberries, and a sprig of rosemary in a pretty glass feels like a celebration — and keeps you wonderfully hydrated.

The heart of it all is the French approach to wellness: it was never about saying non. It's about choosing the beautiful thing, savoring it slowly, and sharing it with the people you love. So pour something cold, arrange your little board just so, and give yourself permission to enjoy. À votre santé!
